Win Two of Two Gives Challoner Advantage in European's

Reigning Junior World Champion, Jack Challoner has been very busy this weekend as he competed in both the second round of European Championships and opening round of 2011 SPEA FIM Outdoor championships on consecutive days. The venue playing host to this exceptional weekend of Trials riding was Gefrees, a small town in eastern Germany.

Challoner, undeterred by his debut ride in the Championhip class of the world scene on Sunday took his second victory of two starts in the UEM European Championships on the Saturday. He was however, unable to carry quite the same form through to the Sunday World Championship Round as he narrowly missed out on a top ten finish…

2011 UEM European Championships – Round 2
Having taken the win at the opening round of the Champonships in Rome, Italy a matter of weeks earlier, Challoner was eager to maintain his position at the top of the championship table, and did so after a nail-biting fight with Alfredo Gomez (SPA – Montesa) and Mateo Grattarola (ITA – GasGas) who finished in second and third respectively. This result has given Jack an eight point advantage going into the third round of the championships which is to be held in Spain on the 18th of next month, the same weekend as the fourth round of the SPEA World Outdoor Championships

Jack started the trial and the weekend well, cleaning the opening five sections and only dropping two single marks in the first 12 sections on the 15 section lap. Jack however, came into a little trouble on section 14 as a slack five just meters away from the ends cards meant he would finish the opening lap on 10 and third at the half way point, as Italian Gas Gas rider, Matteo Grattarola was on seven, and Spanish sensation Alfredo Gomez, second on eight.

The second lap didn’t start ideally either, with two single dabs on the opening two sections, Jack wasn’t making a victory look easy, and with a similar issue again cursing him on section 14, he knew how close the final scores would be, “I honestly thought I had lost the win when I fived section fourteen for the second time. However, I knew nineteen was a good run out, and I am very happy with the way I have ridden today”, Jack commented reflecting on the day’s action after the trial

Alfredo Gomez, following a strong run throughout the final lap just did enough to take second position from fellow front runner Matteo Grattarola who had three fives throughout the second lap putting him on 23, four marks behind Challoner who won the round on a total of 19. Concluding the top five was Frenchman Beniot Dagnicort (Beta) on 38 and Pere Borrellas (SPA – Gas Gas) on 40.
